We now begin the twenty-first year of life at The Sequoias. It is fitting,
therefore, that we recognize the variety and scope of the talents of
our residents.
One outlet for these talents is apparent when we observe the beautiful
gardens around the residents' patios and the magificent garden, provided
by one resident (with the help of others), alongside of the Health
Center.
To illustrate the other talents, the Anniversary Committee has provided a
series of exhibits featuring the historical records preserved by earlier
residents and the arts, crafts and hobbies of present residents. These
exibits are arranged in three main locations.

\ctrcol{\Xbf The Residents' Association \ \ The Sequoias, Portola Valley}
The Residents' Association, consisting of all residents of The Sequoias,
was formed to assist in promoting a satisfying and pleasant community
life. It meets annually to review the year's activities and to make any
needed changes in its constitution and by-laws. The main duties of the
Association are carried out by an elected twelve-member Residents' Council,
that meets monthly, and by many committees.
The Residents' Council works closely with the Administrator in formulating
policies that will be of benifit to all residents. The Council elects a
president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, who together form the
Executive Committee of the Council.
Much of the actual work of the Association is carried out by forty-five
committees that organize and direct activities desired by the residents.
Many residents serve on several different committees and all residents are
encouraged to participate in committee work to make life at The Sequoias
more rewarding and productive.
The Executive Committee members for the past twenty years
have been the following:

{\lv As we celebrate the completion of the first twenty years of the existence
of The Sequoias, we, the residents, take stock of the blessings we
enjoy here.
We have serenity and peace of mind because of our feeling of security and
well-being. We have medical attention when needed, congenial friends and
neighbors, beautiful surroundings, spiritual enrich\-ment through week\-ly
wor\-ship services, mental stimulation in lectures and adult education
classes as well as in the creative arts, physical activity in outdoor and
indoor games and square dancing, and above all, we have an active part in
the operation of our home through our Residents' Council in cooperation
with the management.
In short, we are happy here and we love our Sequoias. We thank its
founders and the early residents who made all the original decisions
and guided our home to its present happy state which we have inherited
from them and which we hope to continue in their traditional way.}
